Admission Criteria

Admission Criteria

The first requirement is a Laurea (B.Sc.) degree, or an equivalent title obtained abroad.

The students are admitted to the M.Sc. programme based on the evaluation made by a specific committee, which evaluates the candidates depending on their career and the relevance of their educational background to the characterizing topics.

Graduates in the following two cases will be admitted:

  • graduates in the BSc programme in Automation Engineering at Politecnico di Milano that, at the end of the BSc programme, have obtained a weighted average grade not less than 22/30;
  • graduates in other BSc programmes of the School of Industrial and Information Engineering at Politecnico di Milano that, at the end of the BSc programme, have obtained a weighted average grade not less than 23/30;

For all graduates from an Italian university who do not fall into the previous categories, a necessary condition is a degree with a weighted average of not less than 23/30If this condition is satisfied, the admission will be decided case by case by the admission committee, based on the academic curriculum of the applicant.

For all graduates from a non-Italian university, admission will be decided case by case by the admission committee, based on the academic curriculum of the applicant.

To be admitted, an English proficiency certificate is also required, according to the official rules of Politecnico for all Engineering Master programmes.

If the opinion of the members of the committee is that the background of a candidate is lacking important topics in the characterizing subjects (Automatic control, Applied Mechanics, Electrical machines and drives), they may assign some “alignment duties”. These concern Bachelor courses to be included in the Master study plan as alternatives to free choices.

The credits associated to all such duties contribute to reach the total of 120 credits and the corresponding marks affect the average mark.

For further details on the admission criteria, please refer to the educational rules on the official website of Politecnico di Milano.
